Common theory questions

What is the braking distance if you are driving at 90 km/h?

If you are driving at 90 km/h the braking distance – in ideal conditions – is 50 metres.

Braking distances in ideal conditions:

  • 30 km/h: 4.5 metres
  • 50 km/h: 12.5 metres
  • 70 km/h: 24.5 metres
  • 90 km/h: 40.5 metres
  • 110 km/h: 60.5 metres

If the braking occurs in other than ideal conditions, the braking distance can be many times greater. For example, if the road is wet or if car's brakes or tyres are in poor condition.
